A small preparation project: transfer a pattern with chalk powder through a perforated template to create a clean embroidery guide.
For this project I transferred a pattern through a perforated template. This method is especially useful on dark fabric where ordinary transfer lines are hard to see.
Prepare the template
Transfer the drawing to paper or tracing paper. Pierce the outline with a thick needle at close intervals. Work on a soft surface, such as a folded towel or ironing board, to protect the drawing.
Prepare the fabric
Turn the template over and gently smooth the raised points created by perforating it with sandpaper. Secure the template with double-sided tape. Rub chalk into a fine powder and work it into the holes with a finger or cotton swab.
Transfer the pattern
Lift the template slowly so excess chalk does not shake loose. A clear outline remains on the fabric for embroidery, painting or another decorative technique.
