A user project for a round mirror with a decorative frame made from clothesline, square knots and soft fringe.
For this project I used the inner ring of an embroidery hoop and cut the rope into pieces about 45–50 cm long. If the base is wider than 25 cm, increase the length of the pieces.
Prepare and attach the rope
First, attach the pieces to the hoop to cover the edge of the base. Reinforce the place for the hanging loop with an extra wrap. Then cover the edges and prepare a thinner cord for the decorative beads.
Knot the frame
I ran the thin cord between two knots and secured a bead. Then I worked square knots with the remaining ropes, keeping the tension even around the frame.
When the frame was ready, I brushed out the cord ends, placed a template over them and trimmed the fringe. Finally, I added a back panel where the mirror can be glued or mounted.
The result is a soft, textured frame that can be adapted to another mirror size, cord colour or more complex pattern.
