Many people believe soutache embroidery is incredibly difficult and takes a great deal of time to learn. But that is simply not true. It is much easier than it may seem. Let’s walk through soutache embroidery step by step using this little flower as an example. It can stand alone as a piece of jewelry or serve as the foundation for a larger jewelry design.

Soutache embroidery requires a few specific materials, all of which are available at any sewing supply store:
• flat soutache cord;
• beads, stones, seed beads, and bugle beads;
• fine thread and needles;
• felt or leather.

Place a stone of the desired size on a piece of felt or leather of the same size. Layer two lengths of soutache cord together and wrap them around the stone. Secure with several stitches, catching the textile backing as you sew.

Sew the beads onto the cords, securing each side in pairs.

For the next row, use only two beads. Once the beads are sewn on, secure the ends of the cords with knots on the back.
