Yes, we women are mysterious creatures. Even a trip to the sauna calls for the right outfit. π
A comfortable, good-looking robe is simply a must-have for the sauna, steam room, or pool.
To make this robe you will need: one large terry towel; elastic, 5-6 cm wide and 70-90 cm long; a strip of cotton fabric for the ruffle; a hook-and-loop fastener; narrow (1 cm) tape for finishing the raw edges; basic sewing tools.
For the ruffle, cut a strip twice the width of the finished piece plus seam allowances. Its length should equal the length of the vertical edge of the towel robe.
Fold the strip in half. Form pleats along it and stitch them in place.
Note: keep in mind that the ruffle needs to be long, since some of it will also be used to trim the pocket.
Stitch the ruffle along the edge of the robe. On the wrong side, tuck the seam allowances under the finished tape, which you stitch over the raw edges.
Cut out the small pocket. Pin the ruffle to the wrong side along three edges.
Position the pocket where you want it, pin it in place, and stitch it down.
Fold over a 5 cm cuff along the top edge and stitch it down.
Thread the elastic through the casing. Secure its ends with a few hand stitches.
Sew on the hook-and-loop fastener. Wear it and enjoy!
