How to Sew a Practical Patchwork Quilt from Old Jeans

Step 1

You can sew this practical quilt from different denim scraps, with no need to buy new fabric. We will use what is already in the closet.

Step 2

Prepare:

• several pairs of old jeans;
• any scraps for the inner side of the quilt;
• any insulation—batting, polyester batting, or old wool sweaters will work;
• sewing tools.

Method

Cut 64 denim squares measuring 23 cm by 23 cm. For insulation, prepare 64 squares measuring 20 cm by 20 cm. Cut 64 lining pieces, also 20 cm by 20 cm.

Make "sandwiches": a denim piece, insulation, and lining.

Step 3

Pin the sandwiches together.

Then comes the most tedious part: stitch each square diagonally from corner to corner.

Step 4

Remove the pins and arrange the prepared squares in rows of 8 to form the future quilt. Sew them first into strips, then into one whole panel.

Step 5

Bind the edges with contrasting bias tape.

Step 6

Do not finish the seam-allowance edges; instead, turn them into stylish fringe.
