How to Join Bias Tape into a Loop

Bias tape is one of the simplest, neatest, and most effective ways to finish raw edges. You can either buy it ready-made or cut it yourself from your chosen fabric at a 45-degree angle. Finishing enclosed garment edges often requires sewing bias tape in the round. Today, we will look at how to achieve this finish using a specific example.

First, baste the bias tape strip to the raw edge, leaving the short ends unstitched.

Important! Use a strip of bias tape longer than the armhole (with an extra 5-10 cm allowance).

Trim the excess tape so that one end overlaps the other by approximately 2 cm.

Pin the bias tape right sides together, then unfold the pressed seam allowances and pin again.

Stitch 1 cm from the edge.

Trim the seam allowances to 0.5 cm from the stitching.
