Getting Ready for the Holidays: DIY Elf Ornament

This cute elf, who resembles a funny Father Frost or Santa Claus thanks to his red hat and bushy beard, is very quick and easy to make! Try crafting several of these ornaments—they look wonderful both on the Christmas tree and in any home decor, making it feel even cozier. 😉

You will need:
• 5 cm wooden ball;
• 1.25 cm wooden ball;
• red felt;
• white fluffy yarn;
• wooden stick or thick wire;
• red ribbon for the hanging loop;
• thread;
• needle;
• cardboard;
• sewing machine—optional;
• glue;
• drill.
Tutorial
Shape a cone hat (a triangular piece with 18 cm sides and a 15–15.5 cm base), sew it along one side, and turn it right side out. Fold the bottom edge outward and glue it in place.

Using a drill bit of the appropriate diameter, drill a hole in the ball. Insert the 18 cm stick into the hole, coating the tip with glue to secure it.
Fold a piece of cardboard in half to a size of 7.5 x 15 cm and wrap the beard yarn around it—70 turns or more. Tie all the loops tightly together with another piece of thread and slide the wrapped yarn off the cardboard. Cut through the bottom loops.

Step 10

Glue the beard to the ball, spreading it evenly around the circumference with no bare spots. Secure it with glue once more.
Slide the hat onto the stick with the seam facing inward. If the stick is too long, trim it at this stage. Glue the hat to the head piece.

If you used wire instead of a stick, bend it slightly to give the ornament a unique character. 😉

Glue on the bead nose.

Trim the elf's beard and hair with sharp scissors.
All that's left is to make and sew on a hanging loop so the ornament can be hung on the Christmas tree.
