Cut several leaves from leather using a pattern, saturate the wrong side with a 1:1 solution of PVA glue and water, and let them dry. Using sharp scissors, make notches along the edges of the leaves to give them a natural look.

Now you can begin forming the veins. To do this, heat the leather knife on a kitchen stove. Do not heat it until it is red hot—this will ruin the leather. Testing whether the knife is too hot is very simple: press it against a piece of thin cotton fabric. If the fabric does not scorch or darken, the temperature is right.
Press the central vein on the front side of the leaf. Remember to work on a hard, heat-resistant surface. For example, a piece of wood wrapped in fabric works well.

Then flip the leaf over and draw lateral veins on the wrong side 3-4 mm apart from each other. Flip the leaf over again and draw lateral veins on the front side of the leather. They should sit between the veins made on the wrong side.
