What to do with leftover seed beads: creating beauty from a bead mix

For those who do a lot of bead embroidery or weaving, the need to use up leftover materials arises sooner or later. If you don't have enough beads left for a full project and nowhere to store the extras, you can use them to decorate bags, pouches, and wallets. I want to share two ideas on how to use up a bead mix.

This tip is also useful if you have uncalibrated beads that don't look neat in standard work. We will use them to create a kind of mosaic, where the difference in individual bead sizes will be completely unnoticeable.

Method 1: "Athenian Mosaic"

The unique feature of this decor is creating overlapping beaded circles that fill the entire piece. As seen in the photo, you can use cut beads, bugle beads, and mixed-size beads in similar or contrasting shades.

How to do mosaic embroidery:

First, draw circles on felt or another material used as a base and mark the center. The circles should be of different diameters and can overlap.

Next, starting from the center, begin the embroidery. Each circle should be one color, the next one a different color. This is perfect for using up leftover beads.

Once the entire surface is filled, you can use it to sew a clutch or a wallet.

Another option is to make an insert for a bag made of denim scraps or fabric.

Method 2: "Herringbone Paving".

For this option, you don't even need to sort the beads by color; you can use a random mix.

The work involves 2 stages.

First, cut out the base for the bag or other item from fabric. Mark it into strips of equal width. The dividing lines can be embroidered with sequins.

Next, picking up 3-6 beads on the needle, create a "herringbone" pattern with the colorful beads. Fill each strip one by one. Fold the finished art fabric with the beaded pattern in half, sew the sides, and attach a zipper at the top.
