PanPastel – A New Product for Artists
Art supply manufacturers sometimes try to surprise artists by releasing rather unusual materials. I want to introduce you to a very unique format of pastel.
PanPastel is a pastel powder that comes in these flat, round pans. According to the manufacturer, this pastel consists mainly of pure pigment with almost no binder. This makes it a highly opaque and saturated material.
The material is applied to paper using special silicone sponges. You simply swap them out on a plastic handle.
## Features:
- Shades blend well with each other;
- The powder is easily erased from paper with an eraser or kneaded eraser;
- The pastel layers well;
- Works well in combination with other materials – sauce, hard pastel, pastel pencils, and charcoal;
- Allows for various effects – translucent backgrounds, gradients, and color spots;
- You can quickly apply an even layer over a large surface.
There are only two downsides: you will have to learn a new technique, even if you are a master of traditional pastel, and the price. I haven't had a chance to try PanPastel myself yet; the price is a bit "steep" for an amateur illustrator.
Undoubtedly, PanPastel is a rather expensive purchase, but probably only for those who just want to take a risk and try it out. But why is everyone always fixated on only one manufacturer and ignoring other products??? 🙄🙄🙄
Even though it's Chinese, there is an excellent alternative
In terms of money, this palette is very, very reasonable at 200-240 UAH for 48 colors (I think that's not bad). If you compare it with PanPastel, there are, of course, some drawbacks: the palette has shades with quite saturated and even slightly acidic tones, but I think that for an artist, this won't be a big problem and will only serve as an additional stimulus for the flight of imagination.
