Wide and Narrow Decorative Ribbons: 2 Easy Ways to Sew a Dressy Bow

Step 1

Today's tutorial, and my heartfelt sympathy, are for mothers of girls with long braids. I have boys myself, but every time I visit a school friend, I am amazed by her daughter's suitcase full of bows, elastics, hairpins, and barrettes 🙃

If you have wide decorative ribbon, lace, and narrow braid, you can make at least 2 basic hair accessories for your little princess yourself 👌

Step 2

1. Wide ribbon + lace.

You will need pieces about 20 cm long. Layer them together (lace on fabric) and join them at the short edges.

Step 3

Sew a gathering stitch down the center of the piece and pull it up tightly: the fabric piece becomes a bow.

Step 4

Cover the seam with a piece of fabric folded in half and joined into a ring on the wrong side.

2. Wide ribbon + narrow ribbon.

In this version, use no lace.

Step 6

Gather the piece at the center again.

Step 7

Make 2 bows from narrow ribbon: one slightly larger than the other.

Step 8

Layer the smaller bows on the main bow and secure them at the center with braid.

Step 9

Add a pretty button or a half-bead to the center of the bow, and its dressiness instantly increases at least twofold 😉

And a small bonus for everyone who read to the end: an almost “living” bow made from ordinary grosgrain ribbon 😍

Fold the blue ribbon into a loop and prepare a small piece of yellow ribbon.

Step 12

Wrap the fish's body with yellow braid several times, fixing each turn with hot glue.

Step 13

Form short looped fins from yellow ribbon and glue on ready-made eyes. Trim the tails to points.
