This master class shows how to knit footies on two needles: cast on 25 stitches, knit a garter-stitch strip from heel to little toe, shape the toe with short rows in a second color, bind off, seam the bottom with a stitch-to-stitch seam, and optionally decorate the top with a flower.
BeginnerFreeThe result is a warm knitted footie with a striped toe. The model is simpler than classic socks because it does not require circular knitting and is assembled with a seam along the bottom.
The first strip should match the distance from the heel to the little toe. This helps adjust the footie to the foot.
The base is worked in the main color using garter stitch.
Cast on 25 stitches with medium-weight yarn.
Work in garter stitch: knit both right-side and wrong-side rows. The strip length should match the distance from the heel to the little toe.
Do not rely only on row count: hold the strip against the foot and check the distance from heel to little toe.
The second color is introduced for the toe, using alternating short and full rows.
Join the yarn in the second color.
Knit the first 17 stitches and turn the work.
Knit the next 2 rows across all stitches on the needle in the second color.
Continue alternating short and full rows this way until you have worked 20 rows.
Switch back to garter stitch in mirror image and bind off the stitches. The footie piece will look like the photo.
After binding off, assemble the footie along the bottom edge.
Sew the bottom of the footie with a stitch-to-stitch seam.
You can decorate the top of the footie with a knitted or crocheted flower.
The flower pattern is not included in the source, so treat it as an extra idea.
After the stitch-to-stitch seam, weave in the yarn ends. If you add a flower, attach it so it does not interfere with putting the footie on.
A contrasting second color highlights the short rows and makes the toe decorative. Choose either calm or bright color combinations.

The finished footie does not reach the needed foot length.
The first strip is shorter than the heel-to-little-toe distance.
Before shaping the toe, place the strip against the foot and make sure it reaches from heel to little toe.
The striped toe shifts or looks asymmetrical.
The short rows and mirrored section were not worked in the same rhythm.
Keep the same order: 17 stitches in the short row, then 2 full rows in the second color, and then work the second side as a mirror image.
