T-Shirt Restoration: Fixing a Stretched-Out Neckline

Why restore a T-shirt when you can easily buy a new one nowadays? 😕
I thought so right up until I ran into my husband's stubbornness—he flatly refused to part with his favorite piece of clothing. So to all wives out there: patience, understanding, and I wholeheartedly recommend bookmarking this tutorial—it might come in handy someday 😉

The first restoration method is for beginner crafters.

Turn the T-shirt inside out after washing it and thoroughly pressing the collar.

Step 2

Fold the collar over to the wrong side evenly along the entire circumference.

Step 3

Once the optimal width is chosen, pin the fold in place and stitch it down. A little tip: it’s best to use elastic thread for this so the stitching has a bit of stretch 👌

The second restoration method is for experienced crafters.

In this case, having a serger and sewing experience is required, but the result will look "factory-made." Follow these steps:

1. Unpick the neckline trim and press it thoroughly.

2. Trim the excess length and stitch the knit strip back into a loop. Make notches along the edge, and serge the seam.

Step 6

3. Pin the band evenly to the neckline, right sides together.

Step 7

4. Sew the inner seam and serge it from the wrong side.

Step 8

5. Fold the band sewn along the inner seam over to the wrong side, baste it, and then stitch it down.

Step 9

6. Press and steam the top of the T-shirt.

Step 10

7. Admire the result 🤩

Some sewists prefer to additionally unpick sections of the shoulder seams (more details about this in the video)
