How to Raise the Waistband and Deepen the Crotch Curve on Pants
I like wearing mid-rise pants, but I also have low-rise pairs in my wardrobe. I bought them because they fit very well, and changing the rise is quite simple at home. Of course, if you have never done this before, start experimenting on clothing you do not mind risking.
How do you deepen the center crotch seam?
Instead of searching for matching fabric and adding height to the waistband, it is easier to deepen the “seat” area slightly. Then the waistband line rises by several centimeters.
Important! When the center seam is deepened, the pants become shorter, so make sure there is enough length allowance and that the pants are slightly longer than usual at the bottom, fully covering the ankle bone.
First fold the pants correctly:
- turn one pant leg wrong side out;
- place the second pant leg inside the first one without turning it.

Now mark the area you will work on with soap or chalk.
In my photo, from the lower side of the inseam, measure 1.5 cm and taper quickly to the original line. You can take more if you want to raise the rise by more than 3 cm. On the upper side, also mark 1.5 cm, but taper gradually.

Now baste along the marked line, cut off the excess, and stitch it on the machine.
Done: the waistband has risen to the line we needed.
