A practical cosmetic bag sewn without a separate facing: the outer fabric and lining are assembled around the zipper for a clean edge.

For this version I cut the outer fabric and lining to matching sizes. I sew the zipper directly to the outer piece so the edge stays clean without extra strips.
Prepare the pieces
Mark matching points on the zipper and on the right side of the outer piece. These marks keep all layers aligned and prevent the zipper from shifting.
Sew the zipper
Pin the zipper to the outer piece, right sides together, with the teeth facing down. Fold and secure the loose ends, then stitch around the fastening and check the alignment.
Join the lining
Place the lining right sides together with the outer piece, align the edges and stitch. Turn the bag right side out, sharpen the corners and check that the zipper opens smoothly. A line of topstitching can secure the seam allowance and give the bag a crisp finish.
