Poppy Candy Bouquet: Working with Crepe Paper

Experience shows that teachers, caregivers, friends, and coworkers all enjoy gifts like this. It is quick, easy, and fairly inexpensive. Do not skimp on the candy; everything else costs very little. 😉

You will need:
• a package of candy, preferably small and round;
• long wooden skewers;
• red crepe paper;
• green organza ribbon;
• glue;
• sharp scissors;
• floral tape, adhesive tape, or thread.

Cut petals from crepe paper. For one flower, you need one blank with four petals and three blanks with five petals.

Attach a candy to the end of a skewer: wrap the edge of the candy wrapper around the stick and wind it tightly with thread. Alternatively, glue it on with hot glue or secure it with floral tape. This will be the center of the poppy.

Shape the petals next: curl their edges outward, then stretch and cup the centers.

Take the four-petal blank and attach it over the candy, wrapping it around the skewer. Twist the petals inward.

Use a five-petal blank for the second layer. Place it over the first layer with the side where the petals curl outward facing up. Secure the petals with glue.

Add two more five-petal blanks, slightly offset, to make a full flower. A bouquet needs at least three poppies, although I usually make larger bouquets of 9-11 flowers. They are always a hit! 😉

To hide the skewers, cut a piece of organza ribbon (you will need about two meters), fold it in half crosswise, and wrap it around the bundled skewers from the lower edge up to the buds.

Secure the ribbon directly beneath them, tying it into a beautiful full bow.
