Original Ribbon and Bead Brooch

Making an original brooch yourself takes about an hour and requires no significant expense.

You will need 5 cm-wide satin ribbon, matching thread, and larger and smaller beads. It is better to use a denser ribbon rather than the cheapest kind, as cheap ribbon does not look very neat.
First, form petals from the ribbon. To do this, fold the ribbon at a 90° angle to create a corner, then fold the ribbon symmetrically toward the corner at a 90° angle. Fold the corners together. Continue folding the entire ribbon this way.

For convenience, baste the ribbon at one of the corners.

Sew large beads into the corners of the petals. They should be about 0.8–1 cm in size. It is best to sew each bead on separately, securing it with several stitches. Then sew the petals together and attach another bead. Continue to the end.

Now sew on the smaller beads in the same way. However, arrange them in a staggered pattern—not on the petals, but between them.

Once all the beads are sewn on, roll the piece into a spiral and stitch it to secure the shape.

Sew beads of different sizes in the center.

Now give the piece its final shape. You may notice that the brooch is quite bulky. Flatten it and stitch it in place.

The piece is almost ready. Cut a circle from the ribbon and seal the cut edge with a lighter. You can also use felt. Sew or hot-glue this circle on, then sew a brooch pin onto it. They come in different sizes and are sold at craft stores.
