Crocheting the Little Mice

You can easily crochet these funny little mice, even if you just recently picked up a crochet hook! A simple pattern with detailed explanations, a little persistence, 2-3 hours of time, and stylish footwear for your baby will be ready!

Eyes and Tail

Tools and materials:
size 3.5 mm crochet hook; pale pink and smoky gray yarn of corresponding weight (Patons Cotton Blend yarn was used in the master class); tapestry needle; sharp scissors; two buttons 1 cm in diameter each.
The crocheted nose can be replaced with buttons or a special safety plastic nose. The same applies to the eyes. Most importantly, secure them firmly so the baby cannot pull them off!

The pattern is designed for crocheting mouse booties in two sizes: from 0 to 6 months (foot length up to 9 cm) and from 6 to 12 months (foot length 10 cm). The instructions in parentheses are for size 6 to 12 months!

Gauge: 16 rows x 20 hdc = 10 x 10 cm.

Sole

With a 3.5 mm crochet hook and gray yarn, ch 11 (13).

Continue working in a spiral.

Row 1: 2 hdc in the 2nd ch from crochet hook, 1 hdc in each of the next 8 (10) sts, 6 hdc in the last ch. Continue working along the other side of the chain—1 hdc in each of the next 8 (10) sts, 2 hdc in the last st = 26 (30) sts.

Row 2: 2 hdc in each of the first 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 8 (10) sts, 2 dc in each of the next 6 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 8 (10) sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts = 36 (40) sts.

Row 3: 1 hdc in each of the first 2 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 5 (7) sts, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, *2 dc in 1 st, 1 dc in next st* x 6, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of the next 5 (7) sts, 2 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc and 1 sc in the last st, sl st = 48 (52) sts.

Cut the yarn, weave in the tail into the work.

Upper

Continue working in a spiral.

Row 1: attach the gray yarn to the center of the heel—ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, but in the back loop only. Continue working in BLO—1 sc in each of the 47 (51) sts.

Rows 2-3: 1 sc in each st (for size 6-12 months, work one more row like this).

Row 4: 14 (16) sc, *1 sc dec, 1 sc in next st* x 7, 13 (15) sc = 41 (45) sts.

Row 5: 1 sc, 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each of the next 10 (12) sts, *1 sc dec, 1 sc in next st* x 5, 1 sc in each of the next 10 (12) sts, 1 sc dec, 1 sc in next st = 34 (38) sts.

Row 6: 1 sc in each of the next 11 (13) sts, 2 hdc dec, 2 dc dec, 2 hdc dec, 11 (13) sc = 28 (32) sts.

Row 7: 1 sc around, sl st.

Cut the yarn, weave in the tail into the work.

Repeat the same steps for the second sole.

Inner Pink Ear

Work in a spiral.

Row 1: with pink yarn—ch 2, 6 sc in 1st ch = 6 sts.

Row 2: 2 sc in each st, sl st = 12 sts.

Cut the yarn, weave in the tail into the work.

Crochet four pieces like this.

Outer Gray Ear

Work in a spiral.

Row 1: with gray yarn—ch 2, 6 sc in 1st ch = 6 sts.

Row 2: 2 sc in each st = 12 sts.

Row 3: *2 sc in 1 st, 1 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * around = 18 sts.

Row 4: 1 sc around, sl st.

Cut the yarn, weave in the tail into the work.

Crochet four pieces like this.

Using a tapestry needle, sew the gray and pink ears together in pairs, then sew the ears onto the booties.

Nose

With pink yarn, ch 5, 1 dc in 3rd ch from crochet hook, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in the last st.

Cut the yarn, weave in the tail into the work.

Crochet two pieces like this.

Using a tapestry needle, sew the noses onto the center of the toe part of the booties.

Eyes and Tail

For the eyes, use buttons or safety eyes (available at any craft store). Sew them onto the mice faces right below the ears.

Tail Made of Gray Yarn

For the tail, cut three gray strands of yarn 25 cm each; using a crochet hook, pull them through one stitch at the very bottom of the bootie heel = six strands. Braid them into a pigtail of the desired length, tie a knot, and trim the excess yarn. Do the same for the second bootie.
