You will need any scrap of leather. You can use not only soft leather, but stiff leather as well—stiff leather is actually preferred. To make a dimensional cabochon, cut out its base from the leather: a circle or oval of the desired size. Keep in mind that the leather will shrink by a couple of millimeters during the process.

Heat a clean skillet on the stove. It is important that the pan is completely free of grease. Heat the leather on it. After just 10 seconds, the leather will begin to curl along the edges, forming a dome. The base for the cabochon is ready.

Now you need to fill the hollow volume. There are two options: you can simply fill the dome with hot glue, but this makes it quite heavy and isn't suitable for all pieces. The second option is to finely chop leather scraps. Coat the inside of the cabochon thickly with Moment glue and partially fill it with scraps. Then pour in glue again and add 1 more layer of scraps. Continue this way until it is completely filled.

Finally, trace the cabochon onto a piece of leather, cut out the backing, and glue it on. Next, decorate the base: you can paint it with acrylics or paint a design on it. You can also apply decoupage to the cabochon—the texture of the leather will show through the napkin beautifully. To finish, coat the cabochon with varnish. Then you can use this "stone" to make a bracelet or necklace.
