How to Make a Ganutell Poppy Flower

Step 1

I have already written about the features of the ganutell technique in this post.
Now I will show you how to make a poppy flower using this technique.

Step 2

This project uses not one but two wires of different diameters. One is thin, for forming the spiral; the other is thicker, to give the petals their required shape.

The method and order are the same: wind the wire around a knitting needle or crochet hook, compress it, and remove it.
Then thread the thicker wire through the spirals. Stretch the coils to the required size, distributing them evenly. Bend the thicker wire into a circle and twist the ends together.

Step 3

Next, tie red thread to the base of the petal and wrap it around the coils.

Step 4

With each wrap, move diagonally to the left or right.

Step 5

Cut black thread into pieces for the center bundle. Fold them in half and bind them with wire. Twist the wire ends together, wrap the bottom of the bundle with the same thread, tie it with a loop, and hide the end inside the bundle.

Step 6

Join the petals with a slight overlap, as shown in the photo. Insert the bundle in the center. Then proceed as usual: bind the stem wire tightly and wrap it with floral tape.

If you like, you can turn this flower into a brooch.

Make one more leaf, assemble everything, and glue it to a ready-made brooch finding.
