How to Knit a Christmas Tree-Pattern Cowl

Step 1

I invite you to knit a cheerful Christmas cowl. It is perfect for walks in a winter forest, and it also makes a lovely gift for someone close to you for any winter holiday.

To knit the cowl you need:
*medium-weight wool-blend yarn in fir-tree green;
*a little yarn in two colors for pom-poms;
*circular knitting needles No4.
You can choose any pattern for the cowl, but a Christmas tree pattern will look the most harmonious. See one chart option below.

Based on the repeat of your chosen pattern and the width of the cowl, calculate the required number of stitches.
Keep in mind that it must be even, since it is best to begin with ribbing.
Work 14...20 rows of ribbing, then the pattern. Work the pattern to a height of 35...40 cm (depending on your preference and the pattern's vertical repeat).
Then switch to stockinette stitch. Do not work it in the round; instead, work back-and-forth rows. Work 6...7 rows, then 1 row of purl stitches (this will be the fold line), followed by another 6...7 rows of stockinette stitch.
Fold over and sew down the casing.
Make a *cord and pom-poms. *Thread the cord through the casing and sew pom-poms to its ends.
