How to Crochet a Loofah with the Right Level of Firmness

Experienced crafters know that almost any small household item can be knitted or sewn by hand. The same goes for an ordinary bath loofah. Here is an interesting and easy tutorial for making a handmade loofah, which we will crochet.

Let's start with the most important part. To make a loofah like this, you need to choose the material (yarn) carefully. This is not merely a recommendation but a rule, because we are making this item not for looks but for personal care. First, pay attention to the following:
• the yarn should not contain components that can cause allergies or discomfort. The chosen material should also not bleed color at its first contact with water;
• the material's level of firmness (this is entirely individual, and you should choose yarn according to your skin type);
• lathering ability.
Loofahs can be crocheted from cotton yarn, linen, wool, or homemade yarn. But only polypropylene yarn has all the qualities needed to make an ideal loofah. The advantage is that you can place a piece of sponge inside a polypropylene loofah, which greatly increases its ability to lather.
Chain 60 stitches and join them into a ring.

Crochet 4 rows of single crochet without increases or decreases.

Now we will crochet elongated loops. To do this, wrap loops around your thumb so that they will be on the right side of the loofah. The loops can be as long as the circumference of your finger, or longer by moving your finger farther away from the fabric. Crochet the next row in single crochet. Then continue crocheting, alternating the rows.

To add variety to the loofah, you can crochet the fabric in several colors. Change the yarn and continue crocheting, alternating the rows.
