Getting Ready for Winter – Knitting a Stylish Men's Cowl

Step 1

To keep your loved one warm as the first cold weather sets in, I suggest knitting a stylish cowl that even the most die-hard opponents of scarves and turtlenecks will love.

To make a piece 25 cm wide and 0.6 m long when folded, we will need 300 g of yarn. For the one in the photo, I used Bulky yarn (in 50 g skeins, which is approximately 55-60 m) and 6 and 7 mm circular needles. If you want a slightly thinner cowl, you can use Aran yarn, but you will need to choose smaller needles. If you use thicker needles with the Bulky yarn, the knit will turn out looser.
Using 6 mm needles, cast on 180 stitches and place a marker at the end of the cast-on to mark the beginning/end of the round. Join in the round and work six rounds: 1 round knit, 1 round purl, alternating this way until the start of the seventh round.
Knit the seventh round and transfer your work to 7 mm needles. On these needles, knit one round and begin working from the chart.
