Fabric Scrap Ring for a Boho Outfit

Boho-style clothing is an ideal choice for summer. A handmade ring crafted from fabric scraps, stones, and seed beads will help complement such an outfit. Just a single handmade piece of jewelry is enough to give your look a unique touch. You can also make a patchwork brooch using the same technique—just replace the ring blank with a secure clasp.

What you need to make the ring:

1. Any fabric scraps from 3 cm in size; pieces of faux leather, upholstery fabric, or denim will also work. The color palette depends on your preference—both worn pastel scraps (shabby chic) and fairly bright ones look great.
2. A small piece of thick laminated cardboard.
3. Foam rubber or thick polyester batting scraps.
4. Faux leather for the base and back of the ring (brooch).
5. A ring blank or a brooch clasp.
6. Beads, small stones, seed beads, embroidery floss.
7. "Moment Crystal" glue.

How to make a ring from fabric scraps: a step-by-step tutorial

Start by selecting your fabric scraps. Pin a piece of fabric in the center of a base measuring approximately 6 by 6 cm and draw a pentagon on it.

Next, hand-sew the scraps clockwise. In boho style, you can combine suede, denim, linen, leather, and upholstery fabrics in any combination.

Next, using a template, draw a circle in the center that will mark the outline of our ring.

Now for the creative part of the process. Using matching thread, embellish with decorative stitches. You can glue on rhinestones or sew on beads, or even a button.

Cut a base out of cardboard to fit the size of the ring, and glue foam rubber or polyester batting onto it to create dimension.

Cover the base with our embroidered patchwork piece. Sew a basting stitch around the perimeter and pull to gather. Glue the piece onto a scrap of faux leather using "Moment" glue.

Next, stitch around the outline of the ring according to your design.

Trim away the excess leather.

Make the backing. Cut a circle from faux leather and make a slit for the ring band. Thread the ring band through and glue the top and bottom pieces together.
