DIY Satin Ribbon Rose

Step 1

This half-open satin ribbon rose is a versatile embellishment for headwear and clothing. It is so simple to make that even a child can do it! And you definitely can. 😉

Step 2

To get started, prepare:
• red or pink satin ribbon, 4 cm wide;
• green or light green satin ribbon, 2 cm wide;
• a glue gun or clear "Kristall" glue;
• scissors;
• thread;
• pins;
• a needle;
• a ruler;
• a candle.

Tutorial

First, cut the red or pink ribbon into 6 strips of 10 cm each, and the light green ribbon into 3 pieces of 5.5 cm each.

Using the flame, form veins on the light green ribbon. Trim the corners off one end of the ribbon to form the tapered tip of the leaf.

Next, make the rose petals. On one edge of the pink ribbon, pin the top corner to the bottom of the piece and stitch it with thread. Fold the corner back and secure it again. Refer to the photo for clarity:

Do the same on the opposite side.

Step 7

Do the same with the remaining 5 satin ribbon strips.

Roll the first petal into a roll. I made these roses for a bouquet, so there is an insert inside. If you are making an embellishment for a headband or a dress, for example, you won't need a stem base. 😉

Step 8

Overlap the second piece onto the first petal with an offset, wrap the roll again, and secure with glue. Glue all the rose petals in the same way.

Step 9

Finally, glue on the light green leaves. If you want to conceal the seams underneath, I recommend gluing on a small round light green piece cut from satin ribbon and singed with a candle.

That's it, your rose is ready!
