DIY Layered Dimensional Kanzashi Ribbon Flower

Step 1

This flower is made from a great many small pieces, so the tutorial is better suited to experienced crafters. Confident beginners can try it too—just be sure to use wider ribbons! 😉

Prepare:
• narrow 1 cm raspberry and milky-white ribbons;
• dressmaker pins;
• a ruler;
• well-sharpened scissors;
• a small piece of fabric for the flower base;
• a large bead;
• glue;
• a candle.

Tutorial

Cut the ribbon into 10 cm lengths. You will need 56 pieces total: 28 of each color.

Place the pieces together as shown in the photo:

Then fold them in half with the ribbon right sides facing inward.

Trim the fold at an angle with sharp scissors and seal it over a candle, fusing all the layers together. Do not worry if it is a little uneven; it will not show in the finished piece. 😉

Open the ribbons evenly, like a book, and start folding the petal pieces—first one side, then the other. Follow the process photos closely:

Fuse the two sides of the petal together like this:

Repeat the same steps for all remaining petals.

Then assemble the flower. Start with the bottom tier. Take 8 finished petals and a round fabric base 5-6 cm in diameter.

Glue the petals around the edge of the circle with a slight overlap, like this:

Now take 6 petals for the top layer and glue them together.

Glue the top tier onto the bottom tier, exactly in the center of the round piece:

Decorate the center with a large bead.
