Cute Decorative Bows: Crochet Them on a Clothespin

Crocheted elements are often used to decorate children’s clothing, hats, scarves, and bags. Flowers of many shapes and sizes are common, but I would like to share an interesting method for making bows with a clothespin. This miniature decoration is very neat and, importantly, comes out the same size every time.

What you need

1. Balls of thin yarn in different colors.
2. A 1.5 mm crochet hook.
3. A clothespin.
4. A large-eye needle.

How to crochet the decoration on a clothespin

Step 1

Wind the main-color yarn around the clothespin in a figure-eight shape. Cut the end. The number of wraps determines how full you want the bows to be.

Take yarn in another color, make and tighten a loop. Begin crocheting around the figure eight in single crochet.

Make the “tails.” On the crocheted section, make 7 chain stitches and work single crochet along them. Repeat for the second tail.

Make the bow. With yarn in a third color, crochet around the previously wound yarn loops. Work 10 single crochets on each half.

Use a needle to weave in and secure the yarn ends. For clothing decoration, make these bows in three or more yarn colors, combining them in different ways.
