Completing a Summer Look with a Cute Dog Brooch

Most women appreciate understated simplicity in jewelry and accessories. Ahead of vacation season and evening walks, I suggest making a cute and charming dog brooch that will take you no more than an hour.

Step 2

To make this brooch, you will need:
• seed beads;
• craft felt;
• thin fabric-backed cork sheet (sold in specialty craft stores in sheets of various sizes);
• scissors;
• needle and thread;
• all-purpose glue;
• brooch pin back.

Trace the brooch template onto a piece of felt and in mirror image onto the cork.

Additionally, prepare a backing from heavy paper or thin cardboard. The paper piece should be trimmed a few millimeters smaller around the edges.

Stitch matte seed beads along the outline of the piece.

Embroider a collar for our puppy using red seed beads.

Now fill in the empty space of the brooch, alternating between sewing on glossy and matte seed beads.

Make a hole in the cork piece and insert the brooch pin back.

Secure the embroidered piece to the cork backing using all-purpose glue. Edge the border this way (American bead edging). When edging the border, make sure all the bead holes face upward.
