A Heart Magnet: the Perfect Gift for More Than Just Valentine’s Day

It is commonly believed that anything featuring hearts should be given only on Valentine’s Day. But that is simply not true! Just imagine the reaction of someone dear to you when they open a Christmas gift and find an adorable fridge magnet inside—one that will always remind them of you!

To make this keepsake gift, you will need:
• leather in two shades;
• cord;
• a small piece of lace;
• 3D foam tape;
• a pen or pencil;
• scissors and a leather hole punch;
• a magnet backing;
• magnetic vinyl;
• glue (regular glue will not work; use only Moment glue);
• heavyweight cardstock and paper.

Draw a heart on a sheet of paper and use it as a template to cut out two cardstock pieces. Cut one template in half, first drawing a wavy line down the middle. Using the cardstock template, cut two hearts from leather in different shades. Leave the second cardstock piece intact.

Attach the leather pieces to the cardstock with double-sided tape. On the back, mark the locations for the holes and use a hole punch to make holes up to 2 mm wide. If you do not have a hole punch, an ordinary awl will work. Lace the cord through the holes in the heart. Secure the knot at the end with a small drop of glue. Attach small pieces of 3D foam tape to the back of the piece, then glue on the intact cardstock heart.

Decorate the edges with lace. Glue magnetic vinyl to the back (mine was self-adhesive, so I attached it directly to the piece; other types will need to be glued on). That’s it—your gift is ready to wrap!
